Conjoined Twins: Brothers Joined At The Hip Learn To Live In Harmony

CONJOINED twins Shivanath and Shivram Sahu have found a unusual way to get to school - dropping to the floor and running like a SPIDER. The 12-year-olds, who were born joined at the waist, bare two legs and four arms and work in tandem to get around. They have stunned doctors with their ability to wash, dress and feed themselves - and say they are determined never to be parted. The pair were born in a village near Raipur, central India. Their arrival caused quite a stir with some villagers even worshiping them, believing they were divine incarnations. They are believed to share the same stomach but have independent lungs, hearts and brains. At birth a local doctor said they could not be separated but now a leading pediatrician, who has reviewed photographs of the boys, has said an operation is potentially viable. However, the twins and their father are vehemently against the idea and say they will remain together all their lives.

Graphic Footage: Elephant Rescued After Poison Dart Attack

A FOUR ton African elephant was left to slowly rot from the inside after cruel poachers shot it with a poisoned arrow. After being safely tranquillised, the medical team from the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and Kenyan Wildlife Service cut open a huge absess on the elephant's side, before removing dead muscle tissue and extracting the arrow. The vets then cleaned and packed the wound with green clay, a substance believed to have strong antibacterial properties. Awakening from the anaesthetic, the elephant rose from its slumber, fit enough to return to the herd.

SELFLESS Mannan Mondal, known as the 'melted man' of Delhi, has turned down radical reconstructive surgery - so he can continue begging to pay for his beloved daughter's wedding. The 50-year-old, who suffers from a type of neurofibromatosis, relies on his shocking appearance to make a living. And despite Indian surgeons offering him the hope of a new face, he has turned it down so he can fund 20-year-old Rasheeda's big day. Mannan, who has no formal education, was born in Kolkata, West Bengal. He was born with severe facial deformities and is missing an eye socket, an ear and most of his teeth - and has been shunned his entire life. He has been out on the streets most of his life and takes home the equivalent of £5 a day. At 18 he found love and now has four children. He travels India attending holy sites to beg at before returning home with his funds to give to his family. Despite his shocking appearance, the tumours growing on his face are not cancerous or painful.

Elephant Spa: Baths, Massages & Treatments At Rejuvenation Centre

It isn't just humans who need a spa day from time to time. Every July, elephants in the southern Indian state of Kerala are treated to ritual spa treatments at rejuvenation centres in the region. The pampered ellies at the Punnathoor Cotta Elephant Yard in Guruvayur receive hose baths, massages, and wholesome, nutritious food. The rejuvenation centre - which is attached to the famous Guruvayurappan Hindu temple - can host up to 59 elephants, and the tusked giants are happy to laze in the water while workers scrub them clean with brushes.The elephants play a key role in Kerala’s legendary temple processions and - with July considered a month of rejuvenation for humans and animals alike - these ellies are certainly not complaining.
